Jimmy Negem, Grace Community’s senior guard and leading scorer, was named the TAPPS 2-4A Most Valuable Player after leading the Cougars to the playoffs for the second straight year.
Negem raised his average to 24.2 points per game in district play, more than two points better than his season average. He also put up 3.4 assists and 3.7 steals.
Fellow Cougars senior guard Keaton Yeatts earned first-team all-district honors with Negem. Yeatts finished the year averaging 7.2 points, 3.5 assists and 2.6 steals per game.
All Saints senior guard Brad Robertson was named to the first team. He filled the stat sheets each night with 14.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 3.8 steals.
T.K. Gorman’s Ben Ashworth also earned first-team honors after putting up 15.3 points and 3.2 assists in his junior campaign.
League champion Trinity Christian-Cedar Hill, which reached the TAPPS 4A state semifinals, had the Defensive Player of the Year (Brandon Banks) and Coach of the Year (Tim Ferguson).
Banks, a senior guard, averaged 3.2 steals, 5.1 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 12.6 points per game. Ferguson led the Tigers to a 28-6 record.
Dallas Parish Episcopal’s Tate Sledge earned offensive player of the year honors for spearheading the offense of the league’s second-place team. Sledge, a senior forward, averaged 11.3 points and 2.3 assists.
Third-place Dallas Christian earned a superlative in the form of Dominique Weaver. The sophomore guard was named Newcomer of the Year after scoring 7.4 points per game for the Chargers.
Grace had one second-teamer (senior post Ian Hyde) while All Saints and Gorman had two apiece. Senior guards Benjamin Taylor and Jonathan Lewis got the nod for the Trojans; from the Crusaders senior guard Caleb Williams and junior forward Brandon Lackner were honored.
