TRINITY — The Grace Community Cougars jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, downing the Trinity Tigers 55-18 in a non-district game Friday.

Grace (3-2) took a 20-point lead in the first quarter, scoring on touchdown runs of 1 yard by Micah Florey and Garrett Newman sandwiched around a 12-yard carry by Blake White.

The Cougars blew the game open in the second, scoring 14 more on a 3-yard run by White and a 62-yard carry by Florey.

The Tigers (2-3) finally found the end zone in the third quarter, scoring on a 13-yard pass from Jacoby Mitchell to Steve Alexander.

Grace followed up with two passing touchdowns of its own before the end of the quarter, one a 21-yard toss from Newman to Grant Childress and the other a 25-yard pass from White to Childress.

Trinity wasn’t through scoring in the third, adding one more touchdown with seconds left on a pass from Mitchell to Kirby Brooks.

Grace’s final touchdown came on a 4-yard run by Adam Hall early in the fourth quarter.

The Tigers’ Tarlus Davis closed out the scoring on a 1-yard run with less than two minutes left in the game.

Grace opens district Friday at Trinity Christian-Cedar Hill.
