East Texas Christian Academy returns to the TAPPS 1A regional playoffs Saturday.
The Lady Panthers will square off with Tomball The Woodlands Preparatory School at 10 a.m. from Plano John Paul II High School.
“They’ve really come together and played well together,” ETCA coach Diann Preston said. “I really expect us to do great at regionals.”
ETCA (16-9), which fell in the area playoffs last year, has been led by senior setter Jenny Munoz, who plays all around.
Munoz’s top targets have been senior Amanda Stephenson and junior Shannon Stewart, who are both new to the team.
“(They) came in and dominated in the middle,” Preston said.
Also contributing for ETCA are senior Hayley Robertson, who excels on the back row, and Courtney Craig, a junior outside hitter. Senior Abby McAdams is the team’s spiritual leader, ensuring team morale and enthusiasm are high.
The Lady Panthers won TAPPS 1-4A with a 3-1 record to receive a bye through the bi-district round. They beat Fredericksburg Heritage 3-1 last Friday in the area playoffs.
The Woodlands Prep (9-4) defeated Houston Texas Christian in bi-district and McKinney Cornerstone in area.
In TAPPS 4A, All Saints will also compete in the regional round on Saturday.
The Lady Trojans (24-10) will take on Houston Second Baptist (16-10) at 4 p.m. from Austin Concordia University.
Second Baptist finished fourth in TAPPS 4-4A and defeated TAPPS 3-4A champion San Antonio Christian in the area round. All Saints was second in TAPPS 2-4A.
