LONGVIEW — Chandler Eiland accounted for five touchdowns — two in the fourth quarter — to guide Canton to a 48-28 victory over Spring Hill on Friday night at Panther Stadium.

Eiland was 21 of 34 for 370 yards and four touchdowns, adding one rushing touchdown. Garrett Denbow caught 10 passes for 145 yards and two scores, and Jordan Jackson rushed for 112 yards — 79 in the second half — on 17 carries with two touchdowns for Canton (4-0).

Spring Hill’s Garrett Self, starting at quarterback in place of the injured Garrett Plumlee, was 8-of-18 for 107 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. He added 121 yards on the ground on 21 carries. Hunter rushed for 82 yards and two scores on 11 carries. Deal caught three passes for 63 yards.

The game started 30 minutes late because of a lightning delay. Once the game finally started, Canton scored in 1:36 on four plays, capped by a 31-yard pass from Eiland to Denbow to give the Eagles a 7-0 lead.

Before Canton’s kickoff, another lightning delay was called and play didn’t resume until 8:36 p.m. The Eagles forced a quick three-and-out and Canton followed with a 26-yard scoring pass from Eiland to Denbow to make it 14-0.

After a Canton turnover on downs, two big runs by Garrett Self set up Ta’vin Hunter for a 2-yard score to put Spring Hill on the board.

Canton added to its lead with a 27-yard touchdown pass from Eiland to Tre Fitzgerald and a 1-yard scoring run by Jackson to make it 28-7 late in the first half.

Self found Keavian Foreman for a 28-yard touchdown pass to cut the score to 28-14 at halftime.

After a botched punt by the Eagles, the Panthers used nine plays to score on a 2-yard carry by Hunter to cut the score to 28-21.

Canton pulled away early in the fourth quarter with a 7-yard scoring run by Eiland. Less than two minutes later, Eiland connected with Brazos Hesskew for a 24-yard score to make it 42-21.

Following an interception, Jackson took the ball on a draw and went 47 yards for a touchdown. Spring Hill blocked the point after to make it 48-21.

Spring Hill added a late touchdown on a 25-yard pass from Self to Scott Deal.
