CORSICANA — Despite double-digit points from DaVonte Givens and Nick Jones, the Brownsboro Bears fell 53-49 to Waco Connally in the area round of the Class 3A playoffs Friday.
Brownsboro fell behind by seven to start the final period, but fought back and made it a two-point game with 4:28 to play. The Bears still trailed by two with less than 30 seconds to play and had possession with a chance to tie the game.
A turnover, however, led to a one-and-one opportunity for the Cadets. Dontay Raglin knocked down both shot to put Connally up by four with seven seconds to play and all but closed out the Cadets’ victory.
“Our guys battled all night long,” Brownsboro coach Tobin Reid said. “They fought back, they put themselves in position to win the ballgame, but you have to give credit to Waco Connally.
“Tonight the ball just didn’t fall for us, but again it was a great season for the Brownsboro Bears and we’re real proud of our kids. Hopefully this will be something we can build on.”
Givens and Jones led the Bears with 18 and 16 points, respectively. Brownsboro ended its season with a 27-8 record.
Chris Harrison and Raglin each scored 12 points for the Cadets. Waco Connally improved to 22-16 on the year and advanced to face Waco LaVega in the Region III quarterfinals next week.
