LUFKIN — Troup’s Carson Clark hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer, lifting Troup to a 54-41 win over Winnie East Chambers in a Class 2A area basketball playoff game at Shands Gym on the Angelina College campus.
The Tigers (25-8) advance to meet either Woden or Trinity in the regional quarterfinals next week. East Chambers ends its season at 24-8.
Carson Clark led the Tigers with 17 points, while Hunter Clark added 16. Shaquille Rollins pitched in nine points.
Glenn Roberts top EC with 15 points, while Hayden Touchet added 13.
The Runnin’ Bucs took a 44-37 lead with 6:06 to play before Troup began to rally.
Hunter Clark’s trey tied the game at 44 with four minutes remaining in the game and Carson Clark give the Tigers the lead 46-44 on two free throws with 2:02 to play.
Eventually, the Tigers built a 50-44 advantage before EC rallied to within 50-48, the last shot a 3-pointer by Roberts.
The Bucs fouled on the inbound pass and Rollins made a free throw for a Troup lead of 51-48.
East Chambers then tied the score at 51-51 on Touchet’s 3-pointer with three seconds remaining.
Then it was Carson Clark’s time to shine. He took the inbound pass and launched the trey that swished for the game-winner.
