LUFKIN — The starting pitchers of Wednesday’s one-game playoff between Carlisle and Dallardsville Big Sandy limited their opponents’ hits, but not baserunners.
In their Class 1A Region III semifinal, the Indians and Wildcats combined to walk 17 batters with nine total errors.
Carlisle made the most of the chances to pull out a 10-6 win at Morris Frank Park.
The Indians (24-2) advance to play either Cayuga or Douglass in the regional finals. The Wildcats ended their season (23-8).
Carlisle starter Gunner Baker struck out nine and allowed two hits in 6 1-3 innings, but walked nine before Zach Brightwell closed out the game.
Big Sandy pitchers Ryan Hendrix and Zach Barnard combined for eight walks and seven strikeouts.
With the game tied 4-4 heading into the bottom of the third, Carlisle broke the game open with six runs on two hits, three walks and a hit batter. Shadow Sanders supplied an RBI double in the frame.
Hunter Martin added a triple and Brightwell and Baker each singled. Baker’s hit drove in a run in the first.
Big Sandy’s hits came courtesy of Hendrix (RBI) and Austin Celestine.
Baker, Brightwell, Caleb Colley, Clay Allphin and Emmitt Wooten each swiped a base for the Indians, who took advantage of five Wildcats errors.
