BROWNSBORO - In a battle of Henderson Country rivals, the Brownsboro Bears scored a 71-62 win over the Athens Hornets on Monday in a boys basketball game.

It was the season opener for both teams.

Tamrick Pace and Xavier Richardson, fresh off leading the Bears to the state football playoffs, led the Brownsboro attack with 21 and 17 points, respectively.

Miles Koehler led Athens with 17 points.

The Hornets were without returning varsity players Travon Fuller and Noah Bush who helped Athens two games deep in the football playoffs.

The Bears play host to Laneville at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday.

The Hornets return to play on Dec. 1, traveling down Highway 31 to meet Corsicana.
