MINEOLA - The final non-district game for the Brownsboro Bears ended in a 32-27 over the Mineola Yellowjackets Friday.

"It was a struggle, but 3-1 looks pretty good. Now to heal up and get ready for district," said Bears head coach Greg Pearson. Brownsboro improves to 3-1 for the year.

Initial scoring in the first half was done by the Bear’s Kenneth Woods and Mineola’s Trevion Sneed.

Woods put Brownsboro back out front 12-7, on a dazzling 45-yard run. Mineola QB Shaw Franklin came right back and scored on a 21-yard run.

Before the Yellowjackets could enjoy their 14-12 lead, Kevon Thompson sprinted 61 yards for another Bear touchdown.

The 18-14 score didn't last long as Mineola's Shaw connected with Cameron Sorenson on a 9-yard pass. The difference in the 21-18 Jacket lead, were the three extra points kicked by Sorenson.

The final half saw Brownwood’s Woods pick off a swing pass and run it back 55 yards for a 25-21 lead.

After multiple defensive stops by both teams, Saul Williams jitterbugged 80 yards for another Brownsboro score. Luis Suarez kicked both third quarter extra points, and a 32-21 Bear lead.

The Jackets made one last try for the win when Franklin hit Cameron Bowman on a 35-yard TD pass for a 32-27 final score.

Mineola drops to 1-3 with the loss

The Bears and Jackets have their open week next Friday.
