WEATHERFORD — Bullard Brook Hill scored seven runs in the sixth inning to rally past Lubbock Christian for a 10-8 win in their TAPPS 3A regional playoff game Wednesday to advance to state.

The two-time defending champ Guard will return to the state tournament for the fourth straight year. The Guard (21-5) will play either Red Oak Ovilla Christian or Fort Worth Calvary in the semifinals Tuesday in Waco.

Mike Greening hit a two-run double while Collin Mondrik and Quintin Pile each had two-run singles in Brook Hill's big sixth. Clayton Engel drove in one with a single as the Guard erased an 8-3 deficit.

Eagles starter Ricky Contreras struck out 11 in the first five innings before running into trouble in the sixth. He allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits and five walks. His relievers combined to allow four runs on five hits while recording two outs.

Quintin Pile allowed seven runs on nine hits and four walks, but five runs were unearned for the Guard (21-5).

Daniel Priddy came on with the bases loaded and no outs in the fifth and Brook Hill escaped the jam without allowing a run thanks to a pair of stellar defensive plays.

"Daniel Priddy was huge for us today," said Brook Hill coach Terry Pirtle. "He had some great stuff on the mound, he had the best control on spotting his pitches and he was a big difference for us tonight.

"That really picked up the rest of the team and we started to hit the ball."

Daniel Priddy equaled Pile's four strikeouts, working three innings for the win.

Drew Robertson had three hits to pace the Brook Hill bats. Engel, Mondrik and Gonzales each had multi-hit games. Kendall Kerns had an RBI triple and scored three runs.

James Hardberger, Madison Davis and Tate Ellison each had two singles for Lubbock Christian (19-11), which did not record an extra-base hit.

The Brook Hill baseball team managed to do what the basketball team could not: beat Lubbock Christian with a spot in the state tournament on the line. The Guard lost 62-60 in the TAPPS 3A basketball regionals.
