LINDALE — Dodge Brown scored 29 points to lead No. 7 Commerce to a 53-48 win over Troup on Thursday in a Class 3A area basketball playoff.

The senior was held to just four points in the first quarter as Commerce led 10-8. Commerce was ahead 10-5 until Quincy Kincade connected on his first 3-pointer of the night for Troup.

Brown scored 12 points in the second quarter — three 3-pointers and an old-fashioned 3-point play — to give Commerce a 27-21 lead at halftime.

Commerce built its lead to 38-26 in the third quarter.

Kris Johnson scored five straight points as part of an 8-0 Troup run that was capped by Kincade’s fifth triple of the night. Commerce led 38-34 heading into the final quarter.

With Commerce leading 45-39, Troup’s Weslee Ross had a 3-point play to cut the score to 45-42 with 3:05 remaining. Brown responded with a runner off the glass, and Casey Shields knocked down two free throws to make the score 49-42.

Kincade made two free throws, but Commerce responded with a 4-1 spurt the put the game away.

Kincade led Troup with 17 points, and he grabbed seven rebounds. Ross and Kedrick Frazier had 10 points each. Kris Johnson had eight points and 13 rebounds, and Grayson Driggs added seven rebounds and seven assists.

Johnson, Ross, and Kincade are all seniors, along with Mohammed Hayat and Cade Jones.

Brown finished with six 3-pointers for Commerce (32-5).

Commerce entered the game averaging 67.7 points per game and hadn’t been held below 60 points since a Jan. 25 win over Paris Chisum. Troup held Commerce to its lowest total since a 56-52 loss to Hot Springs, Arkansas, on Dec. 29.

Shields had 10 points and 12 rebounds for Commerce.

Troup ended the season with a 22-6 record. Commerce will face either Atlanta or Jefferson in the Region II quarterfinals.
