The Troup Tigers, who are seeking their 10th straight trip to the state golf tournament, are second after Wednesday's first round of the Class 3A Region II Tournament at Oak Hurst Golf Course in Bullard.

Pottsboro leads with a 323 after a rainy day, followed by Troup (328), Callisburg (338), Van Astyne (339) and New Diana (340).

In the medalist race, Pottsboro's Austyn Reily was sizzling, firing a 6-under 66 to lead the field.

Troup was paced by Jake Smelser (75) and Brayden Maris (77), who are second and third, respectively. The Tigers finished second at state last year after winning it all in 2017. New Diana's Sam Benson (78) is fourth.

The top three teams advance to the state tournament, which is scheduled for May 20-21 at Grey Rock Golf Course in Austin. Also the top three individuals in the top 10 not on the top three teams also earn bids.

The second and final round of the regional is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Thursday.
