BIG SANDY — After a disappointing loss last week to Carlisle, the Big Sandy Wildcats got back on track Friday with a 56-0 dismissal of the Hawkins Hawks in District 9-1A, Division I play.
Senior quarterback James Ellis led the way for the Wildcats completing 11 of 14 passes for 246 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 112 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries.
Big Sandy (6-3, 3-1) racked up 484 yards of total offense, and its defense was stingy, allowing just two first downs. Michael Green lead the defense with 10 tackles.
Before Hawkins (1-8, 0-4) knew what hit it, Big Sandy scored on its first five possessions to take a commanding 31-0 lead with six minutes left before the half.
Junior wideout Taurus Keppard lead the receiving crop with three catches for 96 yards. He added two interceptions and four tackles on defense.
In the second half, the Wildcats continued to pour it on by reeling off another 19 points with scores from James Ellis, DeAnthonie Washington and Gary Elder Jr., who scored on a 59-yard run to make it 56-0 with 4:36 left in the game.
“I was glad to see how we came out tonight,” said Wildcat coach Larry Minter.
“I thought James played well and he made some good reads to help us out in the passing game.”
