JACKSONVILLE — Chris Holcomb had an inside-the-park home run to lift the Jacksonville Indians to a 7-2 win over John Tyler in a District 16-4A baseball game at Summers Norman Field.

The Lions (2-14, 0-3) jumped to the early lead, riding the arm and the bat of freshman pitcher Josh Parker.

Parker led off the game with a triple to the left field. Two batters later, Parker scored on Tony Johnson's fielder's choice.

The bottom of the third inning erased the JT lead when Holcomb clubbed a pitch to the wall in center field, driving in two runners.

Winning pitcher Mason Smith singled before a fielder's choice by Tribe catcher Michael Sexton set the table for the Holcomb's dashing three-run home run.

Jacksonville added two more runs in the fourth inning as Smith aided his cause on the mound with a two-RBI single to plate Jacob Tucker and Brandon Rawlinson and give the Tribe a 5-1 lead.

JT scored again in the fifth inning after another lead-off triple, this time by Jeremy Wilson. He later scored on one of five Jacksonville errors, an attempted throw out at third base that went into left field.

Cash Cleaver slapped an RBI-double in the fifth stanza to score Guadalupe Muniz after his single. Jacob Turner later walked and came around to score the final run on a passed ball.

Parker was 2 for 3 for JT with a triple and run scored. Wilson added his triple and scored for JT, while Diego Martinez and Tony Johnson's infield hit accounted for the five Lion hits.

Smith took the win for the Indians, striking out five, walking none and scattering the five hits. The right hander was also 2-for-3, with two RBI's and a run scored.

Lead-off batter, Rawlinson went 2 for 4, and scored once to pace the win.

Parker took the loss on the hill for the Lions, striking out one, walking two and surrendering six of the nine hits.

The Lions will play host to Nacogdoches on Friday at Mike Carter Field, while Jacksonville (6-11-1, 2-1) will play at Lindale. Both games are scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
