ATHENS — Anthony Sanders and Kendall Sanders combined for 374 total yards and four touchdowns as the Athens Hornets topped the Spring Hill Panthers 38-14 on Friday night at Bruce Field.
With a 10-7 lead at the half, the Hornets (1-1) posted 28 points in the fourth quarter to give them their first victory of the season in front of the hometown crowd. The Panthers fell to 0-2 on the year.
Anthony Sanders threw for 164 yards, 113 of which went to Kendall Sanders on the receiving end. The duo hooked up for touchdown strikes of 31 and 50 yards. The two also had a rushing touchdown apiece, with Anthony Sanders scoring on a 38-yard run and Kendall Sanders punching in a one-yard score.
Kendall Sanders, who has verbally committed to Oklahoma State, also had a crucial interception to help Athens’ cause.
Spring Hill’s Ben Hollas led the Panthers on the ground, running for 59 yards and a touchdown. The junior also had 97 kickoff-return yards with returns of 53 and 44 yards.
Panthers quarterback Lane Nesbett threw for 134 yards and a touchdown in his first start of the season, taking over for Landry Lee, who suffered a concussion in last week’s season opener. The junior’s favorite target was Matt Ballard, who had 55 yards on five catches.
