ARP — Marcalas Johnson rushed for 160 yards on 13 carries and got into the end zone twice to help lead the Arp Tigers to a 54-21 win over the Winona Wildcats Friday at Bill Herrington Tiger Stadium.
Arp finished second in District 10-2A Div. II play this season behind Garrison.
In the early going, Arp played recklessly, committing two turnovers, one of which led to a Winona touchdown to pull them within seven points, 14-7, midway through the second quarter.
Thomas Reese of Arp returned a punt 73 yards for the first touchdown and hauled in a 30-yard TD reception from Chase Bonner with 11:31 left in the third quarter. The game had gotten away from Winona, who trailed 21-14 at halftime, but after Reese's second score of the night they were 26 points behind trailing 40-14.
Penalties and turnovers hurt Winona's chances of getting back in the game and Arp capitalized on their mistakes and scored on five of their six possessions.
Devin Johnson played well for the Wildcats. He had 25 carries, 145 yards and 2 TDs to pace Winona and Ke'Aaron Cobb, the star running back for the Wildcats, rushed for 90 yards on 22 carries and a touchdown in his final game.
