PALESTINE — Westwood’s quest for its second victory of the season came up a yard short as Arp, ranked No. 10 in the state in Class 2A, nipped the Panthers, 28-27, Friday night in a non-district thriller at Panther Stadium.
Trailing, 28-21, with under four minutes to go, Westwood (now 1-3) marched 56 yards in seven plays, scoring on a 8-yard pass from Michael Dodd-to-Keke Hicks with 1:04 remaining.
Hicks’ fourth touchdown of the game pulled the Panthers within a point, 28-27.
Lining up in extra point formation, Panther holder Courtney Anderson took the snap from center, raised up and ran around right end before being smothered by a host of Arp defenders around the 1-yard line.
Westwood’s ensuing onsides kick was unsuccessful as Arp’s Andre Summers recovered the ball at the Panther 49 and the Tigers ran out the clock to escape with the narrow victory.
