WINONA - In a high-scoring game the Alto Yellowjackets scored a 58-32 decision on the Winona Wildcats on Friday in the football season opener for both teams.

Fred Thacker rushed for 272 yards and scored five touchdowns on 24 carries to pace the Yellowjacket attack.

Nick Pope added 95 yards on eight attempts with Jaqualon Findley and Mikkah Hackett also scoring rushing TDs. Hackett added three catches for 96 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, Finley led Alto with 12 tackles, including three for losses. Hackett added 10 tackles with four for loss.

Jayren Whitaker and Radedrick Woodson recovered fumbles for Alto. Pope, Jared Johnson, Woodson and Kade Griffith had sacks.

Deundre Wheeler led Winona with 205 yards rushing and four TDs on 18 carries. Quinn Johnson also had a TD rushing as he rushed for 58 yards on 10 attempts. Wheeler added 3 for 3 passing for 63 yards. Pablo Tarrango contributed two PATs.

Chase Boyd led the Wildcats with 13 tackles while Bryan McNown added 10. Johnson and Tarrango had nine tackles each.

Alto plays host to Big Sandy on Friday, while plays at Elysian Fields.
