Cristy O’Bannon is stepping down as head volleyball coach after nine successful seasons at All Saints to become an assistant volleyball coach at UT Tyler, Trojans athletic director Eddie Francis announced Friday.

Former junior varsity coach Bryan Winegeart will take over the Lady Trojans for the 2012 season having spent the last three years coaching at All Saints.

In her time coaching the Lady Trojans, O’Bannon led four teams to the TAPPS state tournament, finishing as state runner-up three times.

Last year, All Saints finished second in district and came within a win of returning to the state tournament.

Winegeart was the Lady Trojans seventh-grade coach in 2009 and coached the JV squads the last two years. He is a graduate of East Texas Baptist University where he was a four-year starter on ETBU’s Student Intercollegiate Volleyball Association team.

“We are excited about the future of All Saints volleyball and believe coach Winegeart will lead our program to new heights,” Francis said in a news release. “He has built a strong relationship with the girls over the past three years and has all the qualities and characteristics needed to be an incredibly successful head coach.

“We would like to thank coach O’Bannon for laying a solid foundation and plan to build on our past success.”
