Carly Wyatt returned for her senior season to play for her Robert E. Lee High School Lady Raiders.

And it was a soccer season to remember.

Wyatt, who played for Lee as a freshman and the following two years for the FC Dallas Development Academy, broke the Tyler Lee record with 42 goals her senior year.

The Alabama signee was rewarded for her efforts by being selected as the District 11-6A Most Valuable Player as well as the Tyler Morning Telegraph/Tyler Paper.com All-East Texas Girls Soccer Team Player of the Year.

Wyatt chose Alabama over Texas, Texas A&M and other Division I programs.

“They’re getting a great product,” said Lee head girls soccer coach Chris Woodard, who was named Coach of the Year. “She’s spent a lot of hours working on her skill level. She’s a great finisher with a nose for the goal. She brings several factors people are looking for in a goal scorer, and I think she will have a great career there.”

On Senior Night (March 19), Wyatt scored four goals as Woodard registered his 400th career win.

Woodard led the Lady Raiders to the District 11-6A title and three rounds deep into the playoffs.

Two Longview Spring Hill standouts earned honors — senior Macy Borens was Goalkeeper of the Year and freshman Jayme Dowell was the Newcomer of the Year.

Nominations were taken from coaches and from the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches.

I am a native Tylerite and I grew up reading the Tyler Morning Telegraph and The Tyler Courier-Times. My parents took both the morning and afternoon papers. I came to work here 35 years ago at the age of 23, right after college.
