Grace Community made the short trip to rival Bishop Gorman. The Cougars made themselves right at home in the boys game, but Gorman stood its ground in the girls matchup.

Grace pulled away in the second half to win 5-0 in the boys game, before the Lady Crusaders secured a doubleheader split with a 4-1 victory Thursday night at McCallum Stadium.

Grace scored four goals in the second half to pull away from Gorman, a dominant victory that kept the Cougars undefeated in district (11-6-3, 8-0-1). The first two goals were registered by David Fraga, who ended a scoreless game in the final minute of the opening half to send Grace into the break ahead 1-0.

Gorman fell to 6-6-1 in district.

Grace took the lead late in the first half after coming up empty on many scoring opportunities. That's when Fraga, a senior midfielder, punched it past diving goalkeeper Kaleb Behm with a minute left before halftime.

Grace finished the first 40 minutes with five shots on goal against Behm, who had an otherwise impressive performance in the half.

The Cougars increased their lead to 2-0 in the seventh minute of the second half, thanks to Fraga getting a penalty kick against Behm. Fraga's shot went to the right of Behm, who dived to his left.

About seven minutes later, Grace increased the margin when junior Kendrick Wong pushed a rolling shot past Behm to make the score a commanding 3-0. And in the 16th minute the score blossomed to 4-0, thanks to a nifty goal by senior Reid Dollahite.

An own goal by Gorman — on a header that went the wrong way — made the score 5-0 with less than 20 minutes remaining.

The Crusaders (3-4 in district) took a 1-0 lead in the 37th minute of the opening half, thanks to a long-range shot by senior Maddie Behm. They took about five minutes to make it 2-0, thanks to senior Kimi Prevost finding the nets after junior teammate Bailey Braquet's shot was deflected inside the box.

Grace fell to 2-5 in district.

In the second half, Grace's Rilee Miller scored from close-range on the heels of a deflection less than five minutes in to pull within 2-1. But the momentum was short-lived, because Gorman's Meredith Buzbee scored to increase the lead back to a pair of goals in the 11th minute.

Gorman put the game away, 4-1, with a Cece Guzman breakaway goal with six minutes left.

In the 17th minute of the opening half, Gorman looked to break a scoreless game with Cece Guzman and Aubrey Miller going on the attack alongside each other. Miller had the best look at a potential score, but her shot drifted wide of the goal.

Minutes later Grace's Rilee Miller attempted a long-range shot from about 30 yards out, but it went right into the goalkeeper's hands to keep things at 0-0.
