MARSHALL — Brooke Lee had 24 points and six assists as Bishop Gorman defeated Marshall 54-51 in the season-opener for both teams Tuesday.

Jeff Smith won his debut as the Lady Crusaders head coach after Katie Robertson left to pursue physical therapy school. Gorman went 90-20 in three years with Robertson, led by Michelle Obach, who’s now playing at Merrimack College.

Smith’s last coaching job was at TKG rival Grace Community, where he spent 16 years until he was hired as Gorman athletic director in April 2012.

Mandie VanderVorste tallied a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Crusaders, who play at John Tyler on Friday.
