Jeremy Poincenot, the 2010 World Blind Golf Champion, will play in the Saving Sight Golf Tournament on Sept. 26 at The Cascades Golf Club, The Lighthouse in Tyler announced.

Poincenot’s visit is made possible by sponsor Southside Bank.

The proceeds from the golf tournament will benefit PATH and The Lighthouse in order to provide free eye exams, eyeglasses and low vision aids to those in the community who cannot afford them.

Poincenot, 21, is a student at San Diego State. He lost his central vision when was 19 to a rare genetic disorder (Leber’s Hereditary Optic Neuropathy) that affects the optic nerve. He is a business management major and a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon.

Registration for the four-person Saving Sight Golf Tournament is $125 per team member and can be completed online at Lunch starts at 11 a.m. and tee off will be 1 p.m.

Those who cannot spend the day golfing can spend $50 on “No Play Golf” for lunch and a chance to win prizes. Also, Peltier Chevrolet is offering a chance to win a 2012 Chevy Cruz by sponsoring a “Hole-In-One” contest.

Poincenot will host a Mini Golf Clinic for visually impaired students from 10-11 a.m. Brookshire’s Grocery Co. is sponsoring the clinic.
