Football: Henderson 47, Palestine 17

 

HENDERSON - Henderson scored just 36 seconds into the contest after Jamarcus Jacobs recovered a fumble on the game’s opening kickoff, and the Lions stormed to a 47-17 win over Palestine in the regular season final here Friday.

The Lions move to 8-2 overall and 4-2 in District 9-4A Division I play. Palestine drops to 4-6 and 2-4.

Trae Hall made Palestine pay when he raced 47 yards for a touchdown with 11:24 to play in the opening quarter after the fumbled kickoff. A 29-yard field goal by Axel Romero gave Henderson an 11-0 lead after one quarter.

Palestine rallied for 17 points in the second stanza on a 1-yard TD run by Jeremiah Davis, a 60-yard TD run by Tyler Gray and a 26-yard field goal by Edgar Ayaza, but Henderson countered with a 9-yard TD run by Lynn Freeney, a TD pass from Hall to Caleb Medford and a two-point conversion to lead 26-17 at the break.

In the third, the Lions added a 4-yard TD run by Freeney and a 1-yard Hall-to-Medford pass, and Henderson capped the scoring early in the fourth with a 1-yard run by Keshoyn Alexander.
