Florida netter wins USPTA

Adrians Zguns, of Orlando, Fla., captured the $13,000 USPTA National Hard Court Championship on Sunday at Hollytree Country Club.

Zguns, the top seed, scored a 7-6, 6-0 win over No. 3 seed Piotr Banas, of Lafayette, La., in the seventh annual event.

The tournament was presented by The Original Evans Air Conditioning & Heating; and sponsored by Quality Investments-Evan Swinford; Texas Spine and Joint Hospital; Lago del Pino—Randal and Donna Brooks; Tyler Beverages Inc.; Azalea Orthopedics; Hossley & Embry Attorneys & Counselors; TCMC Homes—Todd & Eric Williams; Oak Wood Place Senior Living-Blake & Tiffani Daniels, Tim & Meridith Twaddell; and McMillin Holdings-Lenard & Connie McMillin.

In men’s open doubles, Cary Lothringer, of The Woodlands, and Jonas Lundblad, of Austin, defeated James Daly, of Tyler, and Zguns in the final, 6-4, 6-4.

In women’s open singles, Ristine Olson, of Austin, was first in the round robin, followed by Michelle King, of Austin. Kathy Vick, of Lubbock, won the Women’s 50 singles round robin. Micky Navarro, of Tyler, won the Men’s 45 singles round robin, while Kimm Ketelsen, of Tyler, captured the Men’s 55 singles with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Paul Soliz.

Lundblad and Olson claimed the Open Mixed doubles. Other winners were King-Athena Cajas, of Austin, (Women’s 35 doubles) and Jon Stitt, of Fernwood, Miss., and Lori Robertson, of Albuquerque, N.M. (Mixed 40 doubles).
