ET teams eye state bids at at Tyler 7-on-7 SQT on Saturday

Two tickets are available for the Adidas Division I Texas 7-on-7 championships.

John Tyler and Robert E. Lee are two of 14 teams vying to grab them at the Tyler State Qualifying Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Lindsey Park.

The remaining teams competing for a ticket at the SQT are: Trinity Christian-Addison, Mount Pleasant, Pine Tree, Jacksonville, Forney, Whitehouse, Longview, Lindale, Robert E. Lee B, Nacogdoches, Crosby and Whitehouse B. Both College Station and Lufkin are also competing, but have already qualified for state, so are ineligible for the two Tyler spots at state.

The action begins at 9 a.m. with round-robin pool play. The top team from each of the four pools advances to the semifinals, scheduled for 1 p.m.

The two finalists get the tickets to state. If the teams then decide to play the championship to determine the overall winner, it is scheduled for 3 p.m.

The Red Raiders finished as champions last year by defeating Longview in their semifinal with Humble Atascocita taking the other semifinal, topping John Tyler to deny the Lions.

Lee has qualified for the 7-on-7 state tournament for 17 consecutive years, with the Red Raiders capturing the state title in 2004.

The Adidas Texas 7-on-7 championships are scheduled for July 7-9 in College Station.

Note: There will also be a Division II SQT on Saturday in Spring Hill. The Pools for that are Pool A: Spring Hill, Kaufman, Bullard, Winona; Pool B Canton, Chapel Hill, New Diana, Palestine; Pool C Gilmer, Kountze, Silsbee, Waskom; and Pool D Carthage, Pittsburg, Sabine, White Oak.
