KILGORE — Elkhart scored all eight of its runs in the first and last innings to secure an 8-1 victory over Queen City in Game 1 of their Class 2A Region III semifinal series at Driller Park on Thursday.

The Elks scored three in the first and five in the seventh.

Game 2 will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Driller Park, with Game 3 to follow if necessary.

Elkhart starter Cam Reeves struck out seven, keeping Queen City hitless until the fourth.

Brian Johnson and Jordan White both had two-run doubles in the eighth for Elkhart. Johnson was the only Elk with a multi-hit game.
