Volleyball: TJC wins division

 

CARTHAGE - The No. 16 Tyler Junior College Apache Ladies continue their late season surge, capturing the Region XIV North Zone Division volleyball title on Wednesday.

TJC scored a 3-1 win over No. 9 Panola College. The Apache Ladies won 25-20, 20-25, 25-17, 25-21.

The victory moves the Apache Ladies to 16-9 overall and 4-2 in division play. Panola falls to 21-5 and 3-3. The Fillies tie with Navarro (24-10, 3-3) for runner-up. No. 13 Trinity Valley (23-4) finished fourth at 2-4 and will miss the regional tournament.

It was the sixth straight win for TJC, while Panola saw its seven game winning streak snapped.

Tyler, Panola and Navarro advance to the Region XIV Tournament, which is scheduled for Nov. 3-5 in Carthage.

Representing the South Zone are No. 19 Blinn (23-6), No. 12 San Jacinto (20-4), Laredo (14-8), Wharton (8-16) and Lee (10-15).

Two teams advance to the national tournament, which is scheduled for No. 16-18 in Hutchinson, Kansas.
