Five UT Tyler athletes from three different sports were honored by the American Southwest Conference.

The honorees were Katelyn Thomason (softball), Aaron McCain and Michael Blevins (baseball), and Kevin Wright and Jennifer Payne (tennis).

For Thomason, a senior from Spring, it was the second time she has been chosen Hitter of the Week for the East Division. She also gained the honor for Feb. 20-25. This time she was honored for the week of April 9-14.

Thomason is a key player for East Division-leading and No. 8-ranked UT Tyler.

For the week, Thomason went 13 for 21 with two home runs, three doubles and 12 RBIs to fuel the Patriots to a 5-1 week, including a sweep of Louisiana College. Thomason also scored 10 runs and walked twice. She had at least one hit — along with five multiple-hit games — and scored in each contest. Thomason picked up a win in the circle as well.

The softball squad (28-6) has four games in Clarksville, Ark., against Ozarks (today and Sunday) before closing out the regular season with a pair against East Texas Baptist at UT Tyler Ballpark (5 and 7 p.m.) on Monday.

Two Patriots from the No. 18 baseball squad gained awards.

McCain, a senior shortstop from Royse City and a graduate of Dallas Christian High School, went 8 for 16 with a home run, two doubles and five RBIs to fuel the Patriots to a 4-0 week. The Hitter of Week helped the Patriots to an ASC East Division road series sweep of LeTourneau. McCain also scored six times, drew four walks and stole a base.

Blevins, a freshman right-handed pitcher from Houston and a graduate of Mayde Creek High School, shared the pitching honors with Marvin Prestridge of UT Dallas.

Blevins tossed a three-hit shutout with five strikeouts and no walks in a 1-0 ASC East Division road win over LeTourneau. Blevins allowed just one extra-base hit — a double — and one runner past second base over the seven frames. His gem came in Game 2, locking up the three-game series for the Patriots.

UT Tyler (28-9) plays host to Louisiana College this weekend, a doubleheader today (beginning at 1 p.m.) and a single game on Sunday (1 p.m.).

The baseball awards were from April 10-14.

The UT Tyler tennis squad clinched East Division titles once again last week.

Wright, a senior from College Station and a graduate of A&M Consolidated High School, went unbeaten at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles against LeTourneau and Centenary, helping the Patriots secure their ninth straight ASC East Division title. Wright, who battled back for a 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 win against CC, teamed with Robert Hodous in doubles.

Payne, a freshman from Amarillo and a transfer from Midwestern State, went unbeaten at No. 3 singles and No. 1 doubles against LeTourneau and Centenary to fuel two team wins — also helping the Patriots secure their eighth straight ASC East Division title and the right to host the conference tournament. Payne teamed with Jessica Blundell in doubles.

The tennis awards were from April 12-17.

The Patriots conclude the regular season today with a match against East Texas Baptist in Marshall. It is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.

The ASC Tournament will be played at the Summers Tennis Center April 27-29. The winning teams receive automatic NCAA postseason bids.
