The UT Tyler volleyball squad dropped the final two sets against Mary Hardin-Baylor to take a 3-2 loss Tuesday night at the Herrington Patriot Center. The Patriots fell to 8-5 in American Southwest Conference play.
UMHB won 25-17, 17-25, 21-25, 25-19, 15-11.
The Lady Cru took the first set 25-17, winning 10 of the final 12 points. The set saw 14 ties and was tied at 15 before UMHB pulled away.
The Patriots found their rhythm offensively in the second set won 25-17.
UT Tyler kept the momentum in the third set and led 9-4, later taking a 17-11 lead. UMHB pulled to within 23-21 before UT Tyler pulled things together and won 25-21.
The Lady Cru won the fourth set 25-19 after close play earlier in the frame. The set was tied at 12, 13 and 14.
The Patriots took charge of the final set with a quick, 4-1 lead. UT Tyler led 8-6 but lost momentum after a close call. UMHB won four straight points and took the frame 15-11 for the victory.
“I thought they played great and came out ready to play,” Patriots coach Suzanne Truitt said. “In the second and third game, we really played well and just lost a little concentration in the fourth set.”
Danika Waldrep led the Patriots with 20 kills in the match. Madison Kosir followed with 19 kills and 29 assists.
UT Tyler plays road games against LeTourneau and East Texas Baptist before returning home Oct. 21 to face Centenary.
