In a matchup of local teams, the UT Tyler Patriots used a second-half surge to down Texas College, 74-56, on Monday in a women’s basketball game at the Louise Herrington Patriot Center.

The Lady Steers (1-3) used a big second quarter to take a 35-33 halftime lead. TC scored nine of the final 12 points of the first half.

The Patriots (1-2) turned things around by outscoring TC 41-21 in the second half.

Lilli Stewart led the Patriots in the scoring department, while Beezy Birchette cleaned up on the glass.

Stewart, a freshman from Academy High School in Little River, with 19 points, followed by Kelsey Crouse with 11. Addyson Moseley (Jr., Perryton) and Aubree Adams (Soph., Marble Falls) each hit for nine points for the Patriots.

Birchette, a senior guard from Killeen, grabbed 13 rebounds as the Patriots outrebounded the Lady Steers 53-42.

Tamia Mobley, a sophomore post from Seattle, had a double-double for the Lady Steers with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Kailyn Primus, a sophomore guard from Fort Worth, led TC in scoring with 18 points. Dejah Stewart (Soph., Dallas) had nine boards.

Other players scoring for TC were Jazmye Hicks (6), Rylan Rogers (4), Taylor Crabtree (4), Kaila Cooks (3), Myeea Ford (3), Ahshakia White (2), Lynzie Brigham (2), Kiara Williams (1) and Stewart (1).

Also scoring for the Patiots were Tyreesha Blaylock (6), Birchette (5), Kylea Johnson (5), Carah Burdette (5), Ruth Nwokora (3) and Lauren Rilies (2).

The Patriots were 17 of 30 at the free throw line, while the Lady Steers were 10 of 16. From 3-point, UT Tyler was 13 of 31 with TC 6 of 23.

UT Tyler shot 38 percent from the field with the Lady Steers shooting 28 percent, including 19 percent in the second half.

PATRIOT POINTS & STEER SCOOP: The UT Tyler men (0-2) will play their home opener on Tuesday, hosting Dallas Christian at 7 p.m. ... The Texas College men’s team (3-1) is home on Tuesday as well, hosting Langston at 7:30 p.m. The Steers are home on Thursday, hosting Southwestern Christian at 7:30 p.m. ... The Patriot women return to play on Thursday, Nov. 21 in their Lone Star Conference opener vs. St. Edward’s. ... The Lady Steers will play at Dallas Christian at 2 p.m. Saturday. ... The UT Tyler and Texas College women will play once again on Monday, Nov. 25 in Gus F. Taylor Gymnasium on the Texas College campus. That will be the Lady Steers’ next home game.
