Trinity Valley kept its hopes of a fourth straight national basketball championship alive Thursday night, but the Lady Cardinals had to work overtime — make that double overtime.

The No. 3 Lady Cardinals rallied in the second extra period to score a 67-62 win over No. 6 Iowa Western in a quarterfinal of the NJCAA Women’s National Basketball Tournament at the Bicentennial Center in Salina, Kansas.

TVCC (31-3) advances to meet No. 2 Chipola (Florida) (32-1) in the semifinals at 8 p.m. Friday.

The Reivers ended their season at 31-4.

Chipola won its quarterfinal matchup with College of Southern Idaho, 76-44. CSI eliminated Tyler Junior College on Wednesday, 90-78.

The other semifinal has No. 1 Hutchinson (Kan.) (35-0) taking on No. 5 Walters State (Tennessee) (32-2) at 6 p.m. Friday.

Hutchinson downed Northwest Florida State, 68-54, while Walters State defeated New Mexico JC, 78-64.

The teams ended regulation at 50-50 and the end of the first OT at 56-56.

Trinity Valley pulled ahead in the second overtime 62-60 on a 3-pointer by Kami Mickens with 1:28 to go. Then Iowa Western’s Chenelle Pelle hit a bucket to tie the game at 62-62 at 59 seconds.

But the Lady Cardinals scored the final five points of the game, a basket from Maya Singleton and free throws from Mickens (two) and Leashja Grant (one).

Jazmine Spears had a double-double for TVCC — 21 points and 10 rebounds. Singleton added 17 points. Grant had 11 boards.

Four Reivers were in double figures — Jasmine Trimboll (13), Pelle (12), Fanni Csutoras (11) and Katie Cunningham (10).

TVCC outrebounded Iowa Western 68-49. The Lady Cardinals also hit 17 of 23 free throw attempts while the Reivers were just 8 of 10.
