ATHENS   — Trinity Valley Community College scored two touchdowns in the final 1:50 to upset the defending national champion Navarro College Bulldogs, 55-51, Saturday at Bruce Field.

The win earned No. 9 TVCC (8-1, 5-1) the right to host the No. 6 Bulldogs (7-2, 4-2) next week in the Southwest Junior College Football Conference semifinals.

Tucker Carter tossed four touchdown passes and ran for three more to help the Cardinals to victory. His one-yard run with 1:50 left cut Navarro’s lead to 51-49, and after Adrian Henderson recovered an onside kick, he threw a 55-yard strike to Derel Walker for the game-winning score.

Navarro quarterback Adrian Nelson blistered the Cardinals for 543 passing yards and six touchdowns, but he missed six of his final nine passes.

Next week’s semifinal game at Bruce Field is scheduled for a 3 p.m. kickoff. The winner will advance to the SWJCFC championship game.
