SAN ANTONIO — Ninth-ranked Trinity scored a 3-0 win over UT Tyler on Monday in a soccer match.
Trinity (3-0-0) won the rematch with the Patriots (1-1), following up last year’s NCAA Division III second round match. The game ended in a 0-0 tie, and the Tigers advanced to the third round by leading 4-2 on penalty kicks.
Tiger sophomore forward Brian Hines led the way with two goals on Monday, scoring one in each half. Hines put one past the goalie in the 25th minute to give Trinity the 1-0 advantage at halftime, assisted by sophomore midfielder Darren McAfee and junior midfielder Nima Naderi.
Hines recorded his second goal of the game in the 60th minute, on an assist from junior midfielder Kyle Porter. Naderi finished up the game’s scoring, firing in a penalty kick in the 72nd minute.
Junior goalkeeper Tim Nelin accounted for two saves in the shutout victory.
The Patriots’ home opener is 7 p.m. Thursday against LSU-Shreveport at Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex.
