The No. 5-ranked Tyler Junior College Apaches split a Region XIV baseball doubleheader with the Coastal Bend College Cougars on Friday at Mike Carter Field.

The Cougars won Game 1, 12-10, with TJC winning Game 2, 12-1.

TJC goes to 28-15 overall and 2-1 in Region XIV. The Cougars go to 24-20 (1-2).

The teams are scheduled to play a single game at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Coastal Bend jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the first game before TJC battled back in the seven-inning game.

Oscar Resendez had three hits and two RBIs for the Cougars with Austin Johnson adding two hits. Gabriello Murillo had two RBIs with Cody Lee adding three.

Taylor Broadway led TJC with a homer and a double and four RBIs. Jarrod Wells had a double and two singles, along with an RBI.

Eric Bullock, Braden Wise, Jarel McDade, Chase Evans and Tyler Abney added hits for TJC with Jordan Trahan knocking in two runs with Blake Maddox adding an RBI.

In the second game, TJC scored nine runs in the first inning.

Trahan and Wise led TJC with three hits each. Trahan had a double and two singles with three RBIs. Wise had a triple and two singles and two RBIs.

Blaze Beason had a double and single with two RBIs, while Bullock had two hits and an RBI. McDade and Wells each had a hit and an RBI with Beau Buesing contributing a hit and Matt Mikusek adding an RBI.
