LAREDO - The No. 1 Tyler Junior College men’s soccer team trailed Laredo at halftime before scoring two goals in the first four minutes of the second half for a 6-2 victory Saturday in Region XIV action.
The Apaches (5-0, 3-0 Region XIV) trailed 2-1 at halftime. Freshman George Braima tied the match in the 48th minute. Yazeed Matthews had the first of his three assists, and he also scored TJC’s only goal of the first half.
Sophomore Rooby Dalusma gave TJC a 3-2 lead just a minute later with a finish inside the box (Matthews assist). After a lull, the Apaches made it 4-2 in the 75th minute when Matthews passed into the box and Marcelo Da Silva scored the goal.
Freshman Mohammed Kamara netted the final two goals on assists from Fredi Ortega and Shaun Stocker.
TJC recorded 15 shots, 10 on target, and had seven corner kicks to Laredo’s five. Apaches keeper William Diaz made one save and Laredo had seven total shots.
Both TJC squads return to action Friday and Saturday with doubleheaders against Northeast Texas and Paris (women at 5, men at 7 p.m.).
