KILLEEN — The Tyler Junior College men’s golf team outplayed a field of mostly NCAA Division III squads to win the Mary Hardin-Baylor Fall Invitational on Tuesday at Stonetree Golf Club.

The Apaches won the open division of the tournament after firing a 296-299—595. Paris Junior College posted a 307-305—612 for second place in the open division, followed by Texarkana College at 310-308—618. The other teams in the open division were St. Thomas (623) from Houston and Murray State College (624) from Oklahoma.

Cameron Lindell, a freshman from Sheridan, Wyo., finished second overall to lead TJC. Lindell fired a 71-73—144 on the par-72 course. Ryan Mulvany, the only sophomore in the TJC lineup, carded a pair of 75s and tied for ninth. Conlan Laporte, a Canadian, contributed a final-round 73 for the Apaches.

Mary Hardin-Baylor posted the two lowest rounds of the tournament among the D-III schools with a 292-305—597. Trinity’s Geoffrey Setiawan won the overall title with a 69-71—140 while competing as an individual.

Apache Ladies Second

TEMPLE — The Tyler Junior College Apache Ladies placed second in the Mary Hardin-Baylor Lady Cru Fall Invitational on Tuesday at Wildflower Country Club.

The host team posted the two lowest rounds of the tournament as the NCAA Division III Cru rolled to a 15-stroke victory over the Apache Ladies. The UMHB women posted a 322-321—643 total while TJC had a 331-327—658.

TJC was paced by Sarah Murray’s second-place finish and Maraea Durie’s third place. Murray, a freshman from Ireland, shot 81-78—159 while Durie, a freshman from New Zealand, had an 81-79—160. Lufkin’s Chelsea Crain, a sophomore, tied for 15th at 167 total.
