Both the Tyler Junior College men and women’s golf teams captured titles in the Tempest Intercollegiate, hosted by LeTourneau University.

The tournament was held Monday and Tuesday at the beautiful Tempest Golf Club in Gladewater.

The Apache Ladies won the women’s tourney with a 36-hole total of 637 (315-322) on the 6,051-yard par-72 course.

LeTourneau (364-343—707) was second, followed by Blinn (364-349—713) and Schreiner (352-367—719).

All five Apache Ladies finished in the top 10, including the top three places. Raelynn Hardgrave, a sophomore from Conroe, earned medalist honors with a 7-over 151 (71-80). She was followed by teammates Kaitlyn Charles, a freshman from Kingwood, with a 158 (79-79) and Odette Booysen, a sophomore from Cape Town, South Africa, with a 160 (82-78).

Schreiner’s Katelyn Smith (81-86—167) was fourth and LeTourneau’s Shelby Allen (82-86—168) was fifth.

TJC’s Olivia Billips (freshman, Euless) placed sixth at 171 (83-88) and teammate Madison Brown (freshman, Mabank) was ninth at 175 (90-85).

In the men’s tourney, Tyler (315-299-308) and LeTourneau (314-290-318) tied for first with a score of 922 in the 54-hole event on the 7,229-yard par-72 course.

Webster (Missouri) was third one stroke back at 923. Other teams were: Texas Lutheran (928), Centenary (943), Schreiner (957), LeToureau B (961), Belhaven (968), Louisiana College (978) and Jacksonville (1,014).

Chase Maus of Texas Lutheran won medalist honors with a 6-over 222 (78-74-70), two strokes ahead of Will Hocker of Webster (75-76-73—224). Brodley Warner of Centenary was third at 227 (79-72-76).

Tying for fourth were TJC’s Brayden Cheatham, a sophomore from Grapeland, (78-73-77—228) and LeTourneau’s Dalton Northcutt (86-73-69—228).

Other TJC golfers include: T8, Ethan Dean (freshman, Kaufman), 80-77-73—230); 11, Malik Daaboul (freshman, Mansfield), 76-74-81—231; T13, Parker McCurdy (freshman, Liberty Hill), 81-75-77—233; and T36, Fisher May (freshman, Caldwell, Louisiana), 81-80-87—248.

The Apaches return to play on Oct. 14-15 in the McLennan Invitational at Cottonwood Creek Golf Club in Waco.

The Apache Ladies and Apaches will then host the TJC Fall Invitational on Oct. 21-22 at Pine Springs Golf Club in Tyler.
