Six teams will gather for Tyler Junior College’s annual Holiday Inn Classic this weekend, but it won’t be a vacation for any of the women’s basketball squads.

Three of the teams are ranked in the NJCAA Top 25 — No. 5 Northwest Florida State, No. 10 TJC and No. 25 Angelina.

The schedule for Friday includes: Bossier Parish (0-1) vs. Collin (2-0), 2 p.m.; Angelina (1-1) vs. Independence (Kansas) (1-2), 4 p.m.; and TJC (2-1) vs. No. 5 Northwest Florida State (1-0), 6 p.m.

I am a native Tylerite and I grew up reading the Tyler Morning Telegraph and The Tyler Courier-Times. My parents took both the morning and afternoon papers. I came to work here 35 years ago at the age of 23, right after college.
