Late Friday night Tyler Junior College received a defensive boost. Marcel Southall, a 6-1, 287-pound defensive tackle who redshirted last year at the University of Texas, officially transferred to the Apaches.
TJC head football coach Danny Palmer confirmed the move "was official" via text with the Tyler Morning Telegraph.
A Duncanville graduate, Southall was ranked in the Top 50 in the nation for defensive tackles when he signed for Longhorns.
He now will look to bolster an Apache defensive that surrendered 50 points or more in their three losses last season to finish 5-4.
Southall joins TCU quarterback Brennen Wooten as recent additions for the Apaches. Wooten was ranked the No. 4 pro-style quarterback in Texas by 247spports.com after throwing 35 touchdown passes his senior season for San Angelo Central.
