Jarvis Christian drew even with its archrival, sweeping two games and avoiding road rage after a pair of losses on its home court to Texas College last week.

Maurese Jackson blocked Hamid Ford’s baseline jumper as time ticked away to give Jarvis a 72-71 win over Texas College in a nail-biter Thursday night in front of a full house at Gus F. Taylor Gymnasium.

Diniliesizwe Love scored 32 points to lead the Jarvis women to a 74-69 victory in the women’s game.

Cedrick Richardson led all scorers in the men’s game with 20 points as Jarvis avenged a nine-point loss in Hawkins to TC on Jan. 30.

Ford fueled TC from a nine-point, second-half deficit, finishing with 17 points. LaDarren Williams netted 17 points of his own, including three straight free throws to put TC in front 71-69 with 1:48 remaining before fouling out.

Tramaine Simmons sunk three free throws over the final minute to give Jarvis back the lead, the last with 17 seconds left. The Steers set up for one final play after a timeout but failed to get a clean look after the Bulldogs swarmed the ball, forcing Ford into a contested shot.

Jackson finished with 13 points and eight rebounds.

The Steers trailed 53-44 midway through the second half until Ford finished off a 12-0 run with 10 straight points, including consecutive treys, to put TC in front 56-53.

Jarvis claimed a seven-point advantage later, only to see TC answer with nine straight to take the two-point edge.

The Steers (13-9, 9-7 in Red River Athletic Conference) saw a six-game win streak end while the Bulldogs (8-13, 7-9) captured their fourth straight victory since falling to TC.

On the women’s side, the Lady Bulldogs reversed roles with TC after losing by the same score to the Lady Steers on their home floor.

The Lady Bulldogs fell behind by seven early in the second half before exploding for 22 straight points. Love supplied 12 points off four 3-pointers to spark the run.

TC cut the lead to three points on three different occasions, the last time when Cherisa Sellers scored on a putback to make it 70-67 with 26 seconds left.

The Lady Bulldogs iced the win with a putback and a pair of free throws down the stretch.

Sellers scored 10 points despite playing just the last six minutes. Keyara Criner paced the Lady Steers with 11 points.

The Lady Bulldogs (11-5) notched their fourth straight win since falling to the Lady Steers (6-15, 6-10).
