HOBBS, N.M. — Texas College used a defensive gem one game and an offensive explosion the next to sweep a doubleheader from the University of the Southwest Friday.

Aldo Montoya pitched a complete-game shutout to lead Texas College to a 2-0 win in Game 1.

Texas College churned out 18 hits to prevail 11-10 in Game 2. The Steers won for the ninth time in 12 games, stealing seven bases and overcoming seven errors in the run-fest win.

Montoya, a junior right-hander from Los Angeles, al-lowed two hits and walked one batter in his second straight complete game win. Montoya earned a share of the Red River Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week honors for his efforts from March 12-18.

Kasey Vogel (2 for 3) and Aaron Savoia (2 for 3) accounted for half TC’s eight hits in Game 1.

Eight Steers recorded multi-hit efforts in Game 2, led by Vogel (3 for 4, two RBIs) and Juan Carrillo (3 for 4, RBI). Blaine Shackelford went 2 for 5 with two RBIs. Tristen Neal, Agustin Enriquez, Jose Serna and Corey Heidebrecht all finished with two hits for the Steers.

The series resumes with Game 3 Saturday at 1 p.m.
