Robert E. Lee slammed North Mesquite 10-0 in five innings to grab a victory in its District 12-5A opener Friday at Faulkner Park.
The Lady Raiders broke open a 1-0 game by scoring six in the third before one in the bottom of the fifth caused the game to be called because of the 10-run rule.
Lee catcher Betty Allen had three doubles with Victoria Swinney also going 3 for 3 with three singles.
Those were two of many Lady Raiders to take advantage of North Mesquite as REL pounded out 14 hits overall. Others with solid nights at the plate were DeAsia Gilbert (2 for 2) and MJ Artmire (2 for 3).
The ten runs were more than enough for Makenna Aycock, who allowed just one hit in the five innings with 10 strikeouts. She also had a double.
"The girls came out ready to play tonight and battled at the plate all game long," said Lee coach Darren Pool. We have talked with them about playing the entire game from the first out to the last and they did that to open district with a win.
"We don't get to savor this one for long as we travel to Rockwall-Heath in the morning."
