ABILENE — The UT Tyler men’s soccer team played a full 110-minute match against American Southwest Conference rival Hardin-Simmons, resulting in a 0-0 double-overtime draw. Patriots’ goalkeeper Sergio Gardea was strong in the match, totaling five saves on the afternoon.
UT Tyler (8-5-1, 5-3-1) tallied 22 total shots in the match, but only managed record two shots on goal, while HSU (6-6-1, 4-4-1) managed five shots-on-goal in 11 attempts.
Patriots’ freshman Adam Kemp totaled six shots, with one on goal for the match, while senior Chris Powell registered four shots total.
The match was played rather cleanly, with 11 total fouls being called, with three cards given out total in the match.
The Cowboys threatened throughout, applying the offensive pressure heavily in the waning minutes, but the stingy UT Tyler defense kept the home team out of goal.
UT Tyler will now played Howard Payne on Saturday at 3 p.m. before heading home to play in the last-two regular-season matches of the regular season next weekend.
