CLINTON, Miss. — The No. 2-ranked UT Tyler softball team split an American Southwest Conference doubleheader with Mississippi College on Tuesday at MC Softball Complex.

In the first game, Heather Abshire tossed a one-hitter in leading the Patriots to a 4-0 victory.

In Game 2, the Lady Choctaws rallied for a 5-3 victory.

Abshire (5-0) was in control in the first game, striking out two. Abshire also came through at the plate with a double and an RBI.

Joey Cronin added two hits while Katelyn Thomason and Ashley Endsley each had singles and RBIs.

Others contributing hits for UT Tyler were Taylor Petrick, Rachel Howell (double) and Lauren Robenalt.

In the second game, the Patriots broke out to a 3-0 first inning lead, but MC rallied for the win.

Cronin, Thomason and Petrick each had two hits for UT Tyler, while Petrick, Ashlee Johnson and Robenalt had one RBI apiece.

Megan Colvin and Katie Carr led the Lady Choctaws with two hits each. 

Courtney Nunn came into the first game in the first inning and pitched the remainder of the contest for the win in the circle.

The Patriots return home on Saturday to face Centenary at UT Tyler Ballpark. The first game begins at 2 p.m.
