Eduardo Hernandez fired in the go-ahead goal shortly before time expired in regulation to complete LSU-Shreveport’s sweep over Texas College on Thursday.

The clutch score, coming on the heels of a deflected shot in the 83rd minute, gave LSUS a much-needed 2-1 win over the Steers in a Red River Athletic Conference soccer contest at the Texas College Athletic Field.

Brooke Martin scored three goals to lead LSUS to a 6-1 victory in the women’s match.

The Steers struck first on Juan Montes’ goal in the second minute. LSUS evened the score in the 30th minute on a goal by Joey Morvant.

The teams traded attempts most of the day, as both finished with seven shots on goal, with each hitting the post in the final 15 minutes prior to Hernandez’ make.

The Pilots (5-7, 4-3 in RRAC) pulled three games ahead of the Steers (1-11, 1-6) in the league standings.

On the women’s side, LSUS dominated the second half, where four of its goals came. Martin tallied two goals in a six-minute span to give LSUS a 4-0 cushion.

Karla Valles put the Lady Steers (3-9, 3-4) on the board with an unassisted goal in the 84th minute.

Christina Hamilton, Sandra Quintero and Irenne Jenriksson added goals for the Lady Pilots (6-4-1, 3-1-1), while Sarah Guillory notched two assists.

TC plays another home doubleheader on Saturday versus Northwood, starting at 1 p.m. with the women’s match.
