KILGORE — Robert E. Lee boys soccer opened its season with a 2-2 draw against Jacksonville on Friday afternoon at the Kilgore Tournament at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium.

The Red Raiders (0-0-1) trailed 1-0 before Tanner Tebbetts made a steal and beat the goalkeeper from 14 yards out to draw things even at halftime.

Jacksonville took the lead again in the second half with Lee finding an equalizer in the final minute. Goalkeeper Uriel Chavez delivered a long ball to Rafael Guzman who got behind the defense and finished it off.

Lee continues play today against defending 4A state-runner up Kilgore at 11 a.m. before facing Athens at 5 p.m. Both matches will be at R.E. St. John Stadium.

 

Lee Girls split their matches with Keller, Palo Duro

FORTH WORTH -- Robert E. Lee split its matches Friday at the National Prep Showcase with a 4-1 win over Amarillo Palo Duro after suffering a 3-0 loss earlier in the day to Keller.

Goals were scored by Brooke Green, Brooke Johnston, Abby Halbrook and Taylor Winchester. Assists were by Halbrook and Abby Jameson.

The split gives the Lady Raiders a 1-2 record with a match today against Hockaday. Kickoff is scheduled for noon at Gateway Park in Fort Worth.
