For a school without a football program, Texas Wesleyan racked up runs at a gridiron pace.

Texas Wesleyan outscored Texas College 37-0 to sweep the Red River Athletic Conference-opening doubleheader Tuesday at Fun Forest Park.

Both games ended after five innings on run rules, with Texas Wesleyan winning 15-0 in Game 1 and 22-0 in Game 2.

Texas Wesleyan (2-7, 2-0 in RRAC) snapped a six-game losing streak while Texas College (0-8, 0-2) saw its six-game skid coming in increase to eight. 

Marissa Rangel recorded four hits, five RBIS and scored a run over the two games. Rangel went 2 for 3 with 5 RBIs to lead the Lady Rams in Game 1.

Lindsey Cline contributed four hits, two RBIs and four runs to the sweep. 

Raven Morena led TWU in Game 1 with a 3-for-4 effort and two RBIs.

Alexis Beltran struck out seven batters and limited TC to three hits. Tekoah Stevenson topped TC with a 2-for-2 effort, including a double, in the setback. 

Jour’Dan Gardner notched TC’s other hit. Gardner pitched the first game, allowing 12 hits.

In Game 2, Chelsea Boles (2 for 3, four RBIs, three runs) paced a well-rounded TWU effort.

Olivia Santos took the loss in the Game 2 after yielding 14 hits and eight walks. 

Santos accounted for TC’s lone hit against Morgan Johnson, who struck out seven batters. 

The teams conclude a three-game series today at noon.
