ATHENS – Trinity Valley quarterback Tucker Carter played pitch and catch with his receivers as the Allen product connected on four scoring passes to help the Cardinals defeat Kilgore 38-20 on Saturday on Patriots Day at Bruce Field.

Carter did not throw an incompletion in the first half before picking up where he left off in the second to finish 16 of 21 for 256 yards and touchdown strikes from 34, 44, 15 and 33 yards.

The game was tied 14-14 at halftime, but was all Cardinals (3-0, 1-0 in SWJCFC) in the second half as the game turned for the home side on a costly Kilgore fumble. A perfect punt pinned the Rangers to their own 1 yard line. On first-and-10, the Rangers fumbled the snap and Trinity Valley recovered. Carter did the honors from a yard out two plays later to make it 28-14 with 4:59 left in the third.

Kilgore never recovered from that setback with the Cardinals increasing their advantage on a 33-yard strike from Carter to K’Sean Wesley.

Any chance the Rangers had for a comeback evaporated when Kilgore fumbled again, this time going in from the 1-yard line. The Cardinals recovered and did enough to maintain control from that point.

The Rangers tossed an interception on the second play of the game to give Trinity Valley possession at its own 36. Carter then set the tone for the passing extravaganza when he found Adrian Henderson wide open for a 34-yard touchdown.

TVCC made it 14-0 in the second quarter on a 44-yard touchdown to Derel Walker.

Kilgore responded with a 21-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Copeland to Ricky Collins. The John Tyler product finished with a team-high six catches for 85 yards in the loss.

The Rangers tied it up 14-14 in the closing seconds of the half when Copeland lofted an 8-yard scoring pass to tight end Mason Powledge.

NOTES: Members of the crowd were given American flags to waive during the national anthem, which was sung by the TVCC choir. Trinity Valley honored all first responders and veterans prior to the game with the Cardinal players shaking hands with each.
