Bullard junior outfielder Gage Wakefield announced his commitment to play baseball at the University of Texas on Twitter on Saturday afternoon.
Wakefield’s tweet read, “Extremely excited to announce that I am going to continue my academic and athletic career with @TexasBaseball. Can’t thank everyone enough for all of the help and support through the years, let’s get to work! #hookem”
According to Prep Baseball Report, Wakefield is the No.2 ranked outfielder in the state for the Class of 2021.
As a sophomore, Wakefield hit. 386 for the Panthers.
Wakefield is the third Class of 2021 Panther to commit to play college baseball. Pitcher Hagen Smith is committed to Oklahoma State, and Bryce Jewell is committed to Abilene Christian University.
Pitcher Mason Kelley — Class of 2020 — is committed to Louisiana Tech.
